Wintercross Returns to MMP This Weekend
- January 13, 2010
The first on-track action of 2010 at Miller Motorsports Park will take place this weekend, on Saturday, January 16, as the third round of the five-round MMP Wintercross Series hits the track.
Wintercross is a mix of rally, autocross and road racing, and will run on the 2.2-mile East Course. Drivers compete in a time-trial type format. Cars are released one at a time, and drivers must negotiate cone-marked chicanes set up along the course as well as any weather-related conditions they may encounter, which may include snow, ice, water, slush, dirt, gravel or mud.
Competitors are divided into nine classes: Super All-Wheel-Drive (SAWD), All-Wheel-Drive (AWD), Naturally Aspirated All-Wheel-Drive (NA AWD), Super Rear-Wheel-Drive (SRWD), Turbo Rear-Wheel-Drive (TRWD), Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD), Small-Bore Rear-Wheel-Drive (SB RWD), Naturally Aspirated Front-Wheel-Drive (NA FWD) and Forced Induction Front-Wheel-Drive (FI FWD). The nine classes will be divided into two groups. Drivers from one group will serve as corner marshals while the alternate group is on track.
Registration will take place from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m., with a drivers meeting scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Practice runs will take place from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon, with timed laps taking place from 1:00 p.m. until 4:10 p.m. All cars will take three timed runs, with the fastest two runs, including penalties, determining the results. The driver with the shortest combined time will receive first place, and so forth.
All cars suitable for street, track, SCCA autocross or Miller Park Racing Association use are allowed. Studded snow tires are not permitted. Modifications are open within each class. Miller Motorsports Park reserves the right to reclassify a car based on modifications. Closed-toe shoes are required, as are helmets (rated SA, M2000 or newer). Rental helmets are available if needed. Competition numbers will be assigned at registration, and must appear on the driver’s and passenger’s sides of the car (1.5-inch stroke and a minimum of 12 inches high).
Entry fees for this event are $60 plus tax per car, and spectators are admitted free of charge.
